How to make the perfect pour-over coffee at home

Zo zet je de perfecte filterkoffie thuis

Filter coffee is simple — but the details make all the difference. With the right technique, you can get the best out of your specialty coffee beans.

What do you need?

  • A filter holder (V60, Chemex, or a simple pour-over filter)
  • Paper filters
  • Freshly ground coffee beans
  • A scale
  • Water at 92–96°C (just off the boil, let cool for 30 seconds)

The Ratio

Use 60 grams of coffee per liter of water — or more simply: 1 gram of coffee per 16 grams of water. For a 250 ml cup, you would use approximately 15 grams of coffee.

Step by Step

  1. Rinse the filter with hot water to avoid a papery taste. Discard this water.
  2. Grind your beans right before brewing — this preserves the aromas.
  3. Bloom: First, pour twice the weight of the coffee in water (for 15g coffee: 30g water). Wait 30 seconds. This allows the coffee to degas and ensures even extraction.
  4. Pour slowly in circular motions, adding the remaining water. Take your time — total brewing time is 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust. Too sour? Grind finer. Too bitter? Grind coarser.

Which beans work best?

Light to medium roasted specialty beans are excellent for filter coffee. Our Costa Rica is a perfect match for this — fresh, bright, and full of character in the cup.
